Rustdesk is better hosted in linux and then when managing a lot of systems. also, going the tailscale route allows you to keep ports closed on your home router to reduce attacks through the open ports that rustdesk and anydesk need. Rustdesk has a web interface from what i saw, as every port is forwarded can this then be accessed from outside my network too? could this web interface be proxied? what exactly do i need the api key for? does this authenticate my client with the server and is required or is it an "optional" thing to encrypt traffic?.
Rename as follows rustdesk host=<host ip or name>,key=<public key string>.exe you’re likely going to want to go to settings and configure a “set password”. Should you self host a rustdesk server? probably yes. i was reading through some comments and posts on the subreddit and i think there's a common misconception about what the server's role is. there are technically two servers: signaling server relay server as long as rustdesk is running on a machine, the machine is constantly pinging the signaling server to make its current ip address and. When i run rustdesk in windows i have to click on start service at the bottom of the window. is there a way to have the service run automaticaly under services. also what is the name of this service in windows. Does rustdesk allow multi screen support? suppose to you want to control a computer with 2 screens. in anydesk you just need to open to connections…. There is an option to "login". what is this for? how do i create an account and what benefit would that offer? it seems to work fine without. also is there ever a situation where the id/password of a device would change by itself? e.g. does that happen when reinstalling the app? (of course if the user explicitly changes it thats fine). Rustdesk client is set to optimize reaction time but with all this even still when you get it side by side to anydesk its noticeably slower regardless of which client i'm connecting to or which computer i'm connecting from. how is anydesk doing it? do they have some kind of software tricks they're using to make it that much better?. After some struggle to set self hosted rustdesk server and make everything work i wrote down notes for myself so if i need to do similar setting again, i do not have to deal with the same issues. tutorial covers installation on windows behind nat with clients both on internet and local network, which is probably most often needed setup.
