Canvas is open source so you can actually check. if you check out the quiz log history you’ll see the two major ‘cheating’ countermeasures are inactivity and and window/tab selection. it cannot tell that you specifically split screen. it can however monitor that you clicked away from the window or to another tab. Empty threat, canvas only tracks when you tab out and how long, since it's open note and all my notes be on google doc, online, hasn't made a difference, now what professors are more worried about is posting test and exam questions on a site like chegg, and 8 students all copy pasting the answer not even trying to put it in their own words.

Professors who say, “i can see when you clicked away from the quiz (or test) on canvas,” are telling the truth. One of my professors claims that he can see when we've been on canvas and which pages we've been viewing and how long we've been viewing each page. can he actually see this information, or is he bluffing?. A new professor at uf told my class that they can monitor user’s time spent on canvas. he said that it shows if a user spent some time on the platform, within the course, or if they hardly spent enough time to accomplish anything on the platform. i was wondering, first of all, if everyone knew this was a thing, and ultimately, what it really shows activity wise. i hop on canvas just to. Hello all, i'm currently at als and have been trying to get into canvas to access my coursework. the issue i'm having is my cac registers but the pin i put in gives me "certificate validation failed". Canvas cannot detect if you are using an extension, at least not to my knowledge. however, if something like that is suspected, it can still be investigated. i’ve seen people have to come in and retake a quiz in front of the professor to make sure they weren’t cheating because they failed the exam but got all 100s on the quizzes.
