6.0 Losing Power- Low Base Oil Pressure | Ford Powerstroke Diesel Forum
6.0 Losing Power- Low Base Oil Pressure | Ford Powerstroke Diesel Forum You need to check base oil pressure, the pump could be bad or the cover or the pressure relief valve could have junk in it, or the drain back valve in the oil filter housing is broken. Got an 06 in the bay right now with low oil pressure, our neighboring chevy dealer just sold, 84k mile on the odometer. no low oil pressure, found damage to the low pressure pump due to a lifter needle bearing having gone through it.

6.0 Low Base Oil Pressure Concern | PowerStrokeArmy Check this first if you lose base/low oil pressure. found a piece of debris in the oil pressure relief valve (possibly a broken piece of a snap ring from the top of an injector). 6.0l power stroke diesel low oil pressure at idle 2004 f250 6.0l, 215k miles. anything below 1k rpm and oil pressure dummies gauge drops to zero and check engine light comes on. I have a problem with my 6.0 powerstroke engine. this problem just started on friday of this week. engine is now very hard to start and just keeps spinning over until batteries are almost dead but will eventually start. If you don't fill up the housing where the filter sits in less than say 8 10 seconds you have a low pressure oil issue. any check engine lights are probably icp related and will not tell you anything until you establish that you have base oil pressure first.

If you have good oil flow of low pressure oil to the filter, and feel that the pressure is actually good (or verified it w/ a gauge), and you are experiencing no engine performance issues, then investigate the dash gauge for the problem. Base oil pressure is 4psi @ hot idle. after cold soak it cranks a good 10 15 seconds and then starts. i also pulled the oil filter after an overnight sitting and it appeared as the housing was full. so i am likely losing pressure somewhere and the high pressure system is losing prime on a cold soak.decided to pull out the lpop to inspect. That low pressure oil pump feeds the high pressure pump. i could be wrong, but pressure below 5 psig (which is where the dash gauge will move to the middle of range) would most likely cause problems with the high pressure pump flow / pressure. There is a ball in the side of the high pressure oil pump that likes to fall out on those early model pumps. it is on the low pressure side of the oil pump and causes the oil pressure to fall low when it falls out. only repair i know of is to replace the pump.
