"Airlock" : Spaceengineers
"Airlock" : Spaceengineers I have a really simple question. do we really need to use an airlock on beer during fermentation? i see how it makes sense if you are going to age or condition something like wine or mead where you don't want to expose it to oxygen and you need to keep it around for months to years. if. Should i be using sanitizer water in my airlock or is regular tap water fine? also, if i'm using a blowoff tube, should i put sanitizer water in the pitcher the tube is running into?.

An airlock allows noxious gases created during fermentation to vent off into the environment such as sulfuric compounds and co2. you don't want that re infusing into the solution as it is going to cause bad flavors and the co2 levels can poison the yeast. even with pin holes i wouldn't let the balloon inflate much. Hey all, i have plastic bucket fermenter ("ale pail") and i haven't seen any bubbles coming from the fermentation lock in 3 days. would it be okay to take of the lid and check for any signs of fermentation?. An airlock is a more elegant and precise solution, but it's not strictly necessary. just like you can ferment sauerkraut with or without an airlock and without infections, so you can ferment beer with or without an airlock. it's the leakage of your cap which will vent the co2. I decide to take some brew i had in a corny keg and add two types of brett to it. i didn't want the brett prime the beer, so i wanted to put an airlock on the corny keg. this is what i can up with. to see the full parts list and how i built it, you can check out my post building an airlock to.

I have a few glass carboys that i use to age sours or other mixed fermentation beers long term (6 18 months). in the past, i had used a standard airlock with a drilled rubber stopper. last year, i wasn’t checking on them regularly, and one of the airlocks went dry. by the time that i noticed. Airlock bubbling can be a sign of fermentation, but not a good one, because the airlock will often blip or not blip for various other reasons so it is a tenuous connection at best. if your airlock was bubbling and stopped it doesn't mean fermentation has stopped. if you airlock isn't bubbling, it doesn't mean your fermentation hasn't. There's a lot of yap yap on this forum about filling a 3piece airlock with miscellaneous *safe* liquids in case of a suck back. this post is to show how one can fill a 3 piece airlock that will only allow air (and not liquid!) to be sucked back in the event that there's a pressure differential. The airlock has filled with sediment and is slightly bubbling over. right now, the airlock looks to be filled with more wort than water. i guess i could somehow rig a blow off tube. my question is, have i potentially messed up my beer in some way? i sanitized my airlock very well before using it. also, can i just leave it if it doesn't get any.
