Black History Month Artist Feature The Gledhill Guardian During the month of february, the tdsb celebrates black history month. in the front hallway of the school across from room 3, we have a wonderful exhibit of art that has been loaned to gledhill for the month by one of our families to celebrate and recognize the work of black artists. In honor of black history month, artsy is featuring the work of 28 black artists who are not as widely known or celebrated as some of their historical or contemporary peers. this list is meant to shine a light on artists who have prominence within institutions, but are often excluded from mainstream conversations meant to amplify overlooked.

Black History Month Artist Spotlight Ontario Performing Arts Presenting Network Black owned galleries now is an online showcase spotlighting 50 black gallerists and the black artists they champion. this black history month, artsy editorial spotlights 10 featured rising artists we’re watching closely. In celebrating black history month, we wanted to share about 5 of the amazing black artists who have made a lasting impact on history and the world of art. some of these individuals influenced historical art movements, and others are currently shaping contemporary perspectives about history with their work. Artists such as edmonia lewis, henry ossawa tanner, alma thomas, jacob lawrence, and many others, influenced american culture, working at pivotal times in history. their art covers abolitionism, the great migration, world war i and ii, the civil rights movement, and modern themes of black lives matter. In honor of black history month, the guardian labs wanted to create a series for google that would feature black artists, called ‘rising voices.’. when they approached us to produce the series we knew we had a chance to profile cutting edge performers, writers, and intellectuals. so we let their work speak for itself.
