Bought My First Lathe! : R/Machinists One of my first was the nosepiece and collet closer for 5c collets on my lathe. i initially made the taper adapter as well, but didn't like the runout, so bought one from royal. Just bought my first lathe! just ordered my first lathe tonight, lms 7x12 hitorque 4100. pretty excited to finally get this baby, opted for the hitorque for the low end torque of the brushless motor, hopefully it will serve me well. completely new to using a lathe, looking forward to learning lots!.

Bought My First Lathe! : R/Machinists This lathe will be a challenge for me since it has some issues. luckily, i've already been able to fix several of them, with the primary concern now being some oil leaks, which doesn't scare me too much. I work as a machinist myself, so i have a good grasp on all the basics of safe and proper maching, but i had a hard time finding good sources of info on this old fella. I stumbled onto this forum thanks to mikbul's sb 8k photos thread. now that my lathe has arrived, i thought i would register here and introduce myself. i'd never even considered anything like model engine building; i just wanted a lathe to make simple motorcycle modifications (spacers, axles, etc). A reddit for machinists of all varieties. from old school conventional guys, to cnc programmers, to the up and coming next generation.

I’ve used a grizzly engine lathe in my home shop for years and i absolutely love it! getting it set up is a bit of a chore. you’ll need a big engine hoist and some tow straps. then, try to not mar the ways or bend the screws, all while figuring out the weight distribution. Well i had come here seeking advice in the past about a lathe and went back and forth with different opinions. i had a huge desire for old equipment rather than the new import stuff (though was about to give up and buy a grizzly). That craftsman lathe has bought and paid for everything else in my shop now (surprisingly the tooling was more expensive than anything else) which has allowed me to start my own machine shop and work from home. Hey everyone. new to this forum, hoping to learn lots and drool over lathes and projects. i'm local to the edmonton, alberta area. my lathe is a frejoth fi 900ag, 12x36 in size.
