Building Partnerships For Restoring Ecosystems In Liberia United With resources from the gef, undp liberia worked with partners and local communities to construct protective revetments to prevent coastal erosion in the face of rising sea levels resulting from climate change. As liberia works to restore its ecosystems and deliver on its international commitments to protect the environment, partnerships (national and international) are vital in accelerating progress. undp is proud to partner with the environmental protection agency (epa) and a wide range of other national and international institutions in these efforts.

The event gathered representatives from government, civil society, the private sector, and development partners, all focused on developing strategies to preserve liberia’s forests, wetlands, and marine ecosystems. Liberia’s rich biodiversity, including its vast rain forests, endangered species, and diverse ecosystems, underscores its commitment to biodiversity conservation. however, growing pressures from economic development, population growth, and unsustainable land use practices pose significant threats to the country's natural resources. Major environmental issues in liberia include degradation of ecological resources: forest, land, water and loss of biodiversity (forest, marine, wetland and mangrove ecosystems). climate change has the potential to increase the already existing stresses and enhance vulnerability to external shock and crisis.
