College, especially community college, requires you to focus most of your time and energy on being successful in that environment, which requires so much more than just going to class and going home. We seek to build an archive of thousands of stories that can be searched and accessed by new community college students looking for inspiration and by scholars and researchers interested in qualitative data about students who attend open admissions institutions. The texas success initiative (tsi) program is required by state law to ensure students enrolled in texas public colleges possess the academic skills needed to perform effectively in college level coursework.

The Community College Success Stories Project We seek to build an archive of thousands of stories that can be searched and accessed by new community college students looking for inspiration and by scholars and researchers interested in qualitative data about students who attend open admissions institutions. The texas success initiative (tsi) program is required by state law to ensure students enrolled in texas public colleges possess the academic skills needed to perform effectively in college level coursework. Community colleges serve a broad cross section of students with different educational goals and timelines than four year institutions, so we developed a measure of community college success that reflects the fundamental differences in how community college students participate in higher education. In this report, we examine student outcomes through the fall 2022 term, shedding light on both the immense progress made and necessary areas of future reform. outcomes among first time english students have remained stable after substantial initial growth in both access and course completion. Despite surveys indicating that nearly 80% of community college students aspire to earn a bachelor’s degree, aspen and ccrc’s tracking transfer report found that nationally, only 33% of community college students transfer to a four year institution, and only 16% of community college students earn a bachelor’s degree within six years of. By the numbers: previous surveys have shown that a majority (80 percent) of community college students aspire to a bachelor’s degree, but only 16 percent earn a bachelor’s degree within six years of starting college. transfer rates are even lower for some student groups, including those from low income backgrounds, adult learners and black and hispanic students, according to the report.
