The Brick Testament From seth’s line, people begin to call on the name of the lord (genesis 4:26). his descendants multiply, but instead of boasting in violence, they walk with god. In chapter 5, we see god beginning to work to remedy the world of the sin problem. much of chapter 4 focuses on the “ungodly” offspring of cain. chapter 5 gives part of the genealogy of a separate offspring, that of his brother seth. through seth, comes the promise of the messiah. It doesn't mean that seth's descendants have no contribution to mankind but that their priorities are ordered around god's centrality. also, while each individual in seth's line may seem to be insignificant, god remembered them in an absolutely amazing way through the meaning of their names. Genesis 4 details the story of cain and abel, the first sons of adam and eve, and introduces the themes of sin, violence, and the consequences of disobedience in the post fall world.

Genesis 4 details the story of cain and abel, the first sons of adam and eve, and introduces the themes of sin, violence, and the consequences of disobedience in the post fall world. This passage will stand in stark contrast to a similar family tree given in chapter 5 for seth, also a son of adam. in this passage (4:16 25) identify events that confirm the ungodly nature of cain’s ancestors. Cain will talk with god, but he is a man of unbelief. cain becomes angry and seems to be depressed. the lord warns cain that sin is waiting to pounce when the opportunity arises. god personifies sin. god is exhorting cain to escape from this, but we find that cain lures his brother into conversation in a field and then kills abel. No, cain’s descendants are not some sort of biological “snake people.” it is a metaphor, and thus the lineage of cain represents the “offspring of the serpent.” by contrast, the lineage of seth that we see in genesis 5 gives us, metaphorically, the lineage of the “offspring of the woman.”.
