SEED Project
SEED Project

SEED Project A malicious dns server for executing dns rebinding attacks on the fly. whonow lets you specify dns responses and rebind rules dynamically using domain requests themselves. No worries if you haven’t read it yet though—in this article, we’ll walk you through the concept of dns rebinding from scratch, demystify how it works, and explore why it’s a serious browser based security issue. Dns rebinding changes the ip address of an attacker controlled machine name to the ip address of a target application, bypassing the same origin policy and thus allowing the browser to make arbitrary requests to the target application and read their responses. The objective of this lab is two fold: (1) demonstrate how the dns rebinding attack works, and (2) help students gain the first hand experience on how to use the dns rebinding technique to attack iot devices.

The most reliable way is setting up your own dns server with rebinding capabilities. the github project rbndr by taviso provides a simple, non conforming name server for testing dns rebinding vulnerabilities. Rebind&conquer lab is a simple network environment that allows to demonstrate how the dns rebinding attack works and help students and aspiring professionals gain hands on experience on how this technique can be used to bypass a firewall to attack private servers. I was not satisfied with the existing tools for dns rebinding, so i decided to create my own and test current protections against dns rebinding. the source code for dnsrebinder is at github: dnsrebinder. All the labs in this repository simulate real world bugs i found in the wild.
