Inside Gas Giant Neptune | Space The planet neptune, eighth planet from the sun in earth’s solar system, is the fourth largest planet in diameter and third largest in mass. neptune was named after the roman god of the seas. Jupiter and saturn are the gas giants of the solar system. the term "gas giant" was originally synonymous with "giant planet". however, in the 1990s, it became known that uranus and neptune are a distinct class of giant planets composed mainly of heavier volatile substances (referred to as "ices").

Gas Planet Neptune On Space Background, 3D Rendering Animation. Ice Gas ... Neptune is encircled by six rings. neptune, like uranus, is an ice giant. it’s similar to a gas giant. it is made of a thick soup of water, ammonia, and methane flowing over a solid core about the size of earth. neptune has a thick, windy atmosphere. one day on neptune goes by in 16 hours. Neptune belongs to the class of ice giants whose membership also includes its neighbor, uranus. as with the gas giants, neptune’s outer shell is primarily made up of hydrogen and helium . The outer solar system worlds may be gas giants at their surfaces, but inside they are really gas slush planets. each has a solid core, layers of ice, and frigid oceans of liquid hydrogen. By studying its interior, we can gain insight into how gas giants like it form and evolve over time information that could help us understand other planets outside our solar system!.

In our solar system, the two gas giants are jupiter and saturn, which are distinguished from the smaller and denser ice giants uranus and neptune. these enormous planets feature powerful magnetic fields, numerous moons, complex atmospheric systems, and rings. All four of the giant planets are believed to have central cores that are rocky and metallic, about 1.5 to 3 times the diameter of the earth's core. in saturn, uranus, and neptune these earth like cores are surrounded by icy outer cores made of frozen water, methane, and ammonia. Nasa’s james webb space telescope shows off its capabilities closer to home with its first image of neptune. not only has webb captured the clearest view of this distant planet’s rings in more than 30 years, but its cameras reveal the ice giant in a whole new light. The icy/rocky protoplanets grew into being planets mostly made of hydrogen and helium the gas giants: jupiter, saturn, uranus, and neptune. the gas giants formed directly from hydrogen and helium gas like stars.
