In my professional life, i’ve been an intern, a ceo and everything between the two. with each move up the corporate ladder, there were fewer and fewer people to solve the hard problems. Stories pass on wisdom, they teach valuable lessons and they preserve our history. storytelling creates a connection to the past and to each other. it is a uniquely human skill. as far as we know, no other species creates and shares stories. for some reason, humans don’t do well with randomness. I began to realize that without a new destination, i was making poor choices in my day to day life. it’s difficult to see them. they seem insignificant in the moment, but they are there. Babies are a great example. they are learning machines. babies start by grabbing things, sticking them in their mouth to learn. then they teach themselves to crawl so they can explore more of their world. once they can walk, they are on a mission to discover more of the wonders that surround them. There are two ways to live life, one is on the sidelines and one is on the field. i want to be on the field. i want to participate in life, not watch it like some tv show. i’ll never be able to….
