She has been lucky enough to be on stage many times as well, most recently in ensemble's 2023 production of the river. long story short, she's been quite busy this past decade, theatrically speaking, and wouldn't have it any other way. She is thrilled to be stepping back into the director’s seat with this incredible cast and production team. huge thanks to amanda and spark plug for the opportunity. Here’s a piece i wrote for the studio theatre in washington dc when they staged the first production of lungs. it’s odd to read it back now, a decade later, and reflect on the journey that both the play and i have been on. it’s moving to think that it’s having a sort of homecoming at the old vic. Lungs is a smart and funny drama that follows a couple through the surprising lifecycle of their relationship, as they grapple with questions of family and change, hope, betrayal, happenstance, and the terrible pain that you can only cause the people you love. Duncan macmillan is a playwright, director, screenwriter, and studio cabinet member. his play lungs received its world premiere at studio in 2011, and he directed the us premiere of mike bartlett’s play contractions at the theatre in 2013.
