May 2011 – Paint.NET Blog I recently had a deadlock in my paint.net 4.0 code that i’m still untangling*. i have a custom interop layer for handling direct2d, directwrite, ui animation manager, and windows imaging component. Paint.net’s performance is an interesting topic. there are some areas, such as startup, where paint.net is very fast. there are other areas, such as selection manipulation, where it is quite slow, even laughably so in non pathological situations.

October 2011 – Paint.NET Blog Paint.net (sometimes stylized as paint.net) is a freeware general purpose raster graphics editor program for microsoft windows, developed with the .net platform. I’ve already said before that paint.net 4.0 will not work on windows xp, but i’ve also recently decided to drop vista as well. the minimum os will be windows 7, and it will not work at all on vista or xp. There are two releases of paint.net: you can purchase it here. this helps fund development and is an alternative or supplement to sending in a donation. in addition, updates happen automatically in the background when you’re not using the app. In 2010, developer jonathan pobst started a project called pinta, describing it as a clone of paint.net for mono and gtk#. pinta reused the adjustments and effects code from paint.net but otherwise is original code.

"this is a major update to paint.net that includes a raft of technology upgrades including full color management, support for hdr and wide color gamut displays, major improvements to input latency and memory usage, and new and revamped blur effects. I’ve already sent them an e mail telling them that this is a violation of the paint.net license and to either cease this, or to remove paint.net from their site. To get the update immediately (once it's certified), you can follow the instructions listed here. download the installer from the website. this is the recommended download if you don't have paint.net installed. it can also be used to update the app. As usual, you can download it directly from the website or you can use the built in updater via utilities –> check for updates. here are the changes for this release: check out the blog post for more details, including stuff about 4.0!
