When my oldest son started eleventh grade of high school, one of the first things i got excited about was the fact he could now ask someone to the junior/senior prom. i had watched all the adorable “prom proposals” and prom pictures on social media from friends for quite some time, and i couldn’t wait for it to be my turn. Keep in mind that the thought of attending a school dance may be especially daunting for kids with learning and thinking differences. they may have had difficulties interacting with peers in everyday settings. they may be worried they won’t know what to say or how to act at prom. We're both hs seniors, and at the beginning of the year i was sort of forced into buying a school package (by my parents) which includes a prom ticket. when i told him, he said that i had wasted my money, and he wasn't going to any dances. i think, well, it's not a big deal. i'd like to go with him, but i can go by myself and try to have a nice night. he got angry in response, which doesn't. As a disclaimer, i'm not really sure how much context or information to give so this may be pretty lengthy. so as the title says, my (16) parents aren't allowing me to go to prom. i'm a junior in high school and before anyone tells me "you'll have prom next year", just hear me out.
