Extensive research demystifying plant soil microbe interactions highlights insights into beneficial soil ecosystem functions, which are widely explored in soil remediation and land rehabilitation as well as improved food production.
Microbial Media :: Scow Soil Microbial Ecology Lab
Microbial Media :: Scow Soil Microbial Ecology Lab Various microbial strains isolated from soils have been shown to benefit crop production through mechanisms such as nutrient acquisition or suppression of pathogens. The links between biotic niches and species coexistence mechanisms are further complicated by wide variation in the ficity speci of plant –microbial interactions. The state of science relating soil organisms to biogeochemical processes is reviewed, focusing particularly on the importance of microbial community variation on decomposition and turnover of soil organic matter. We investigated the soil bacterial and fungal community composition in iron rich soil in the southeastern usa, and possible community shifts in soil microbial populations based on endophyte.

While none of the four articles in this research topic explicitly undertake or assess ecological restoration, each examines different mechanisms and processes relating to plant soil microbial interactions that have deep relevance to the theory and practice of err. Both novel and classical approaches to finding and studying microbial interactions of interest will be discussed in this special issue regarding microbial interactions in soil. From mycorrhizal networks to airborne signaling, the interplay between soil microbes and plants orchestrates a symphony of interactions that shape the health and resilience of ecosystems. As the four articles presented here illustrate, there are significant opportunities for examination of plant soil microbial interactions to improve the approaches, efficiencies, and outcomes of efforts to halt and reverse ecological damage to our global ecosystems.
