In this paper, in order to get an ideal model dimension for field héricourt embankment, four different dimensions are compared. by adding water flux and heat flux boundary conditions respectively, the soil volumetric water content and temperature variations are calculated by finite element method. The soil atmosphere interaction is investigated in a densely monitored large scale embankment constructed with compacted lime treated soils in the northeast of france. For the numerical modelling, a fully coupled thermo hydraulic model was developed, allowing analyzing the changes in temperature, volumetric water content and suction of soil, with the upper boundary conditions at the interface between soil and atmosphere determined using meteorological data.
