Fhwa’s proven safety countermeasures initiative (psci) is a collection of 28 countermeasures and strategies effective in reducing roadway fatalities and serious injuries on our nation’s highways.

Install effective engineering countermeasures to improve pedestrian safety. develop policies and or guidelines to support pedestrian safety measures. improve data collection of pedestrian crashes and monitor trends. improve emergency services and incident management to address pedestrian safety. Systemic application of multiple low cost countermeasures at stop controlled intersections increase driver awareness and recognition of intersections and potential conflicts.
