Ramsay hunt syndrome (rhs) involves peripheral facial palsy (fp) and herpes blisters in the head and neck area. in addition to the facial nerve (cranial nerve vii), the vestibulocochlear nerve (cranial nerve viii) is frequently affected, which causes hearing loss, tinnitus, and or vertigo [1]. Left facial droop and mild dysphasia were observed on physical examination, consistent with palsy of the left cranial nerve vii (figure 1a; appendix 1, video available at cmaj.ca lookup suppl doi:10.1503 cmaj.160483 dc1). Ramsay hunt syndrome typically presents with sudden onset (<72 hours) unilateral peripheral facial palsy, severe ear facial pain, and a vesicular ear rash. other presenting symptoms include vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, dry eye, altered taste, and oral lesions.
