Rubus Spectabilis “Olympic Double” – Salmonberry – Off The Edge Gardening This flowering bramble, rubus spectabilis “olympic double” or the salmonberry, was found in both. it is a north american cousin of our favourite roadside berry provider and erstwhile adversary. 'olympic double' is a thicket forming shrub with upright prickly shoots and palmate leaves to 15cm long, composed of ovate, glossy, mid green leaflets. very showy, double bright purple pink flowers 5cm across open in mid spring.

Double flowers are bright magenta and although individuals are a little messy in form, the overall effect is attractive. stems are dull sandy brown and prickly. older stems have peeling bark. best grown in full sun on well drained soil.
