Valvoline Restore & Protect | Don't Just Change Your Oil. Restore Your ... I put valvoline restore and protect in my 2020 wrangler 3.6l and noticed the oil pressure went up to 34 psi from 30. i put in 5w30 rather than 0w 20, which i assume was in it (first oil change in my ownership) and it was about 40f in my garage and about 10f outside. Valvoline restore and protect is designed to clean at a slower pace over regular oil change intervals to not clog the oil filter resulting in it bypassing, this is something that they had to keep in mind while coming up with this product as it is a "mainstream" off the shelf licensed product. That valvoline looks really stout! i'd like the oxidation to be a little higher and the pour point to be a little lower, but otherwise it looks great. i personally think the m1 ep hm is slightly better as a "high mileage" oil, in terms of it's seal conditioning and ability to slow seal leaks. Unfortunately valvoline doesn't offer many details about the additives in their synchromesh product, but they state that it meets gl 4. i like that pennzoil offers such transparency but still find it odd that they don't apply a gl 4 label, given that this fluid is said to meet that standard.

Valvoline restore and protect was released shortly after i was initially interested, because the marketing targeted was exactly what i was looking for (restore to factory clean and prevents build up), so i gave it a try. I considered valvoline's cvt fluid but decided i didn't want to experiment with it at the point just to save a few bucks. $80 for four quarts of honda fluid is a bit steep. i think the days of a high quality universal fluid like maxlife atf for dexron iii applications are over. for cvts at least. We were pondering over castrol universal and valvoline maxlife for high mileage suzuki cvt (jatco), and we ended up getting castrol because of its higher viscosity (and cheaper). running fine. The valvoline product sheet even states this: " vr1 . is not recommended for use in vehicles with catalytic converters " so vr1 is basically a racing pedigree oil, and it's not intended for modern street vehicles. and yet he claims that the add pack was updated for sp concerns, even though it's actually only sn licensed.
